Die inwonende Christus
In die Nuwe Testament lees ons dat Christus in ons woon. Twee vrae kom na vore:
- Op watter manier woon Christus in ons?
Is there nothing to sing about today? Then borrow a song from tomorrow; sing of what is yet to be. Is this world dreary? Then think of the next. —C.H. Spurgeon
Ons eenheid met Christus
Jesus en sy dissipels is aan tafel in die bovertrek. Hy sê ‘n merkwaardige ding: Daardie dag sal julle weet dat Ek in my Vader is en julle in My en Ek in julle (Johannes 14:20). Later sê Jesus: Ek in hulle (17:23). Hierdie waarheid is vir Jesus so belangrik dat Hy twee beelde gebruik om hierdie begrip aan ons te verduidelik.

Jesus Christus werk in my
Jonathan Edwards gebruik 1 Johannes 4 om aan te toon dat alle ware werke van Christus sekere eienskappe in gemeen het:
“God bids us do what we cannot, that we may know what we ought to seek from him.” – Augustinus
Herlewing
Jonathan Edwards het geglo dat God se koninkryk vooruit gaan deur seisoene van herlewing. Daar word dikwels na sy werk en dié van George Whitefield verwys as die Great Awakening. Ons lees dat mense na Johannes die Doper gestroom het om gedoop te word. Jesus self het voor groot skares gepreek. In Johannes 6:10 (die vermeerdering van die brood) lees ons: Die mans alleen was omtrent vyf duisend.
